Rangi Yetu fellowship is a two-way, multi-cultural exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, as well as build lasting, sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and Kenya.
RY fellowship participants are placed in intensive 10 - 12 weeks fellowships within our programs (Social Entrepreneurship, Stop Child Marriages, GBV & FGM inititives) across Kenya for an individually tailored professional development experience. They build a broad networks with Kenyan entreprenuers, mid-level to senior level local managers and other program participant colleagues as they develop a deeper understanding of social impact initiatives in Africa.
Participants must:
Be young leaders, ages 25-40, with at least two years of professional experience at the time of application
Have a track record of making an impact in their community, organization or company
Be proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application
Be a citizen of, and currently residing in, one of the eligible countries for participation in the program.
CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
Medical Conditions
All Fellows are required to disclose to RY Fellowship management team any pre-existing medical condition, illness or disability or any ongoing medical treatment. In order to assess the Fellow’s suitability for the Programme or in processing any insurance claim, RY Fellowship management team may require information from the Fellow’s doctor and reserves the right to request the Fellows consent to access their medical records. Where there is a charge for the provision of such records the Fellow will meet the cost.
Required Medication
All Fellows must take all necessary vaccinations or medication either in relation to their personal health or are advised requisite period before Departure Date and during the Programme and should take advice from their doctor as to which vaccinations or medication are necessary and/or advisable for travel to the Fellowship Country. RY Fellowship management team reserves the right to request the Fellow provides proof that they have been vaccinated or medicated appropriately at any time and to withdraw the Fellow from the Programme if the Fellow has not received all the requisite vaccinations or medication.
Environment
You understand that by participating in the Programme you will be living and working in unfamiliar surroundings and that are significantly different from your own local work and living environment. Accommodation, food, water, sanitation and hygiene may be significantly different or of lesser quality in the Fellowship Country. In addition, the Programme may well expose you to various physical and emotional challenges. You understand there is a possibility of violence and crime, civil unrest, war, terrorism, natural disaster, homesickness, and loneliness. By submitting your application to the RY Fellowship management team you accept such risks and confirm you are physically and emotionally capable to participate in the Programme and that you do not have any undisclosed mental, physical, or other medical issues which may affect your ability to participate in the Programme in a professional and respectful manner.
Travel Documents
You are responsible for obtaining and making available the necessary documents (including but not limited to full, current and valid passport and visas for all periods, countries and territories you may visit during the Programme) to enable the Fellow to participate in the Programme. RY Fellowship management team will offer non-professional advice and assistance in respect of visa requirements for British or EU passport holders but you are ultimately responsible for obtaining and paying for these documents.
Emergency Contacts
You are required to provide details of an emergency contact. If at any time RY Fellowship management team feels it necessary to contact your emergency contact, RY Fellowship management team will first seek, where possible, your permission to do so. However, RY Fellowship management team reserves the right at all times to speak to your emergency contact without your permission.
Travel Insurance
All Fellows must organise, maintain and pay for a comprehensive travel insurance policy for the duration of your Fellowship, including during transit to and from the Fellowship Country, from the date you leave your home country to the date you arrive back home. Appropriate travel insurance must provide cover for all activities you will take part in during the Fellowship, and must include coverage for injury or damage to both you and your possessions and also for injury or damage you may cause to others or their possessions (called Personal and Legal Liability by most insurers). Insurance must also include medical evacuation cover and repatriation. Please ensure that where you intend to take part in any high risk activities organised during the Programme that your travel insurance policy covers you for taking part in such activities. RY Fellowship management team reserves the right to request proof of your insurance and to deny your further participation in the Programme if we deem you to be insufficiently covered.
Accompanying family members including minors
RY Fellowship Programmes are not suitable for minors. Should a Fellow choose to bring a minor with them to the Fellowship Country, that Fellow will have sole responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of that minor and will make private arrangements for the accommodation and supervision of the minor. RY Fellowship management team takes no responsibility and has no liability for the health and safety of minors accompanying Fellows on a Fellowship, and they are not part of the programme.
Cost of fellowship program
The Price quoted by RY Fellowship management team to the Applicant includes provision of:
planning, organisation and logistical management of the Fellowship Programme;
administration costs prior to departure to the Fellowship Country.
The Price DOES NOT include the following, for which the Fellow is responsible:
all travel whether to the Fellowship Country or to any required events prior to departure or after return from the Fellowship Country;
any of the Fellow’s medical expenses including but not limited to required vaccinations or malarial medicines,
any travel insurance whether relating to injury, death, damage or loss of property or personal liability or otherwise.
visas and related charges where applicable; and
the Fellows’ own personal equipment, clothing, insurance for personal belongings and personal spending money.
Accommodation, meals and upkeep of the fellow
Local transportation
Although RY Fellowship management team takes all possible care to accurately price the Programme you understand that there are various factors outside of RY Fellowship management team’s control, such as local laws and regulations in the Fellowship Country that may cause RY Fellowship management team to amend the Price of the Programme. RY Fellowship management team reserves the right in its sole discretion and for any reason to increase the Price of the Programme prior to the Departure Date. Should RY Fellowship management team increase the Price of either the Programme or an Additional Excursion, the Fellow will be given the option to cancel their participation in the Programme or the Additional Excursion and have the relevant Price refunded by RY Fellowship management team less the Deposit and any costs already incurred by RY Fellowship management team, including any third-party cancellation fees.
